OVERVIEW
Excerpt from Sikhs & Sikhism in Britain - the Bradford Perspective by Raminder Singh:
"Amrit Parchar Dharmik Diwan is an organisation of Amritdhari Sikhs, founded by a small number of followers of the Sikh Sant, Baba Gian Singh Ji
Johalanwale (Jallandhar). The organisation was initially based at the Guru Gobind Singh Gurdwara, Leeds Road. Due to their strong adherence to
Sikh traditions they lost favour with a management committee dominated by Sehajdhari Sikhs. Kulvinder Singh, the appointed granthi was leading
this group, and when his contract of services with the Gurdwara was not renewed, the whole group drifted away. Initially they started their own
separate weekly meetings in individual members' homes in turn until they bought the present premises.
It was originally a Zion Church, later converted into an Italian club. After a good deal of renovation the building was opened as a Gurdwara on 24 October 1982.
The organisation has very close links with branches in some other cities in Britain. They attract visitors from other cities for special functions and on these
occasions they hold Amrit (baptism) ceremonies. Unlike other Gurdwaras in Bradford who elect their management committees annually or biannually,
the management of this Gurdwara is in the hands of a small number of members appointed with the consent of their spiritual leader in the Punjab."
